To feel embarrassed or ashamed of certain things about ourselves or just merely uncomfortable.
Peace is realizing we all—-billionaires, movie stars, your idols, your friends, your parents, your dog all feel this feeling.
Anxiety is thinking we’re the only one who has this or only a small group of people has it.
It’s so hard to realize everyone has it even if they tell you because we’re all trapped in our own brains unable to entirely feel what another feels.
Your idols even don’t like a few things about themselves, and it’s okay.
Where we run into trouble with idols is when we only look at one part of them—-say— their looks, intelligence, wealth, personal relationships and think “I wish I had that!”
But we can’t wish we were someone else unless we take the whole thing...
We can’t want their personal relationships, but not be willing to take their finances.
We can’t take their looks without also taking their anxiety...
So suddenly you try to build the perfect human: I’ll take his wealth, with her kindness, with his looks, with that person’s intelligence, and this person’s peace of mind.
As soon as you do that, ultimate discontent seeps in, but as soon as you realize we all have these weird, almost debilitating flaws and other people SUFFER JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DO in their own weird ways and they’re simultaneously feeling the panic you feel you realize “shit, we’re all in this together”, but at the same time afraid to admit to each other all these deep scary things we’re ashamed of.
It’s normal to feel the way you feel. We all do.
